The Project

"If you rid of all your baggage you will likely float away.
But you can't know beauty if you don't know pain
Gotta feel it, feel it all.
There's your medication."
-"Complicated Creation" Cloud Cult

We all have words, letters written in our heads, that we wish we had sent, but, for some reason, never got the chance to. Maybe we ran out of time or maybe we never found the courage. The words are still there, though. They don't just go away, so what do we do with them? Well, I have an idea.

Give them to me. Give me the handwritten note you've been keeping hidden in your desk drawer or that unsent text message on your phone. Why? Because you deserve to be heard.

This isn't about anger or vindication; it's about validation.

My goal is this: I want to take your unsent letters and combine them in a collection of words that need life. Once I have the collection on paper, I want to give the words a real voice. If I can get enough people to submit their letters, I will arrange a small-scale performance of the letters to share your voice with so many others.

These letters should represent a range of feelings, relationships, and people. I'm not looking to produce a sob-fest or pity party. Your letter can be funny. It can be short or long. It can be to a loved one, friend, or family member. The recipient doesn't have to be alive or know you exist or even be real. This is your opportunity to put the words at a distance for your own sanity and maybe even for somebody else.

If you're interested in submitting an unsent letter, please view the Submit page for more information.
